This beautiful bird is the rarest species of Kingfisher in Costa Rica. It was high on my wish list, but I did not expect it. When we stopped next to a tiny puddle on the edge of the forest, Juan Diego tried playback for this little Kingfisher. To our amazement, a bird quickly responded and posed for "phone scope" photos in the heavy cover.
These photos were taken with a Canon 7D Mark ii Digital Camera with a 100-400mm zoom lens.
