This gull has many characteristics of an adult (or 4th Winter) Great Black-backed Gull.
However, the mantle (back color) is paler than a typical GBBG, yet still darker than a typical graellsii race LBBG we typically see in Indiana.
The bird is Herring Gull-sized. The bill is also not quite as heavy as most GBBG, the eye is paler yellow and the head is much more heavily streaked than any GBBG
of this age that we have seen, and the leg color is a sickly gray rather than the typical pink of GBBG.
Interestingly, this gull had a band on it's left leg (see photo #3).
